Akron Crossword Puzzle Tournament
Announcing the
3rd Annual
Akron Crossword
Puzzle Tournament!
Saturday, March 24th, 2012
1-4pm, Meeting Rooms 2AB
Compete to Complete Will Shortz’s crossword puzzles! Here’s how it works:
All levels of crossword enthusiasts compete at unpublished crosswords provided by New York Times editor Will Shortz, the “puzzlemaster” himself. The puzzles begin easy and get progressively harder. Prizes are awarded to the top three finalists.
There are three stages, plus a final round. During each stage, contestants have twenty minutes to solve the puzzle. When finished (or when the time is up), the puzzles are collected and our judges score them. The top three finalists (top three cumulative scores) are announced after the third round. They then compete against each other with the fourth, and most difficult, puzzle on the auditorium stage.
CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OF OUR 2011 WINNERS
Mike Wilhelm is our new champion of the 2nd Annual Akron Crossword Puzzle Tournament. Hailing from West Virginia, Mike finished the first puzzle (for example) in four minutes flat! Coming in second was Akron’s own Neal Felsinger, who finished in third place last year. Way to go, Neal – next year could be your year! The third place finalist and new to our tournament was Maren Jennings from Medina – we think she could rise to the top next year!
Our thanks to all who participated – great minds were at work and a good time was had by all! For information about the 3rd Annual Akron Crossword Puzzle Tournament, please check with this blog in January 2012, email hhdiv@akronlibrary.org or call us at 330-643-9040.
