Friday, 9:30-11:30 am Workshop – Children’s Library
Megan Hicks Stories InCreasing, with the Origami Swami
A hands-on workshop using two art forms – storytelling and origami. Learn easily recalled short stories and the instructions for simple origami models.
Audience: Librarians, Teachers, and child care providers.
Friday, 1:30-2:30 pm Family Concert – Auditorium
Megan Hicks Storytelling Express – Origami Swami
An interactive blend of stories, fairytales and rhyme. Watch Megan Hicks create a story using origami right before your eyes!
Audience: Ideal for ages 5 and up.
This is a perfect outing for day camps.
PERFORMANCES
Saturday, 7-10 pm
Storytelling Concert (12 years and older) – Auditorium
Megan Hicks Coming of Age – 1942 and 1968
During the opening of the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C., Megan premiered “High School on the Home Front,” based on her mother’s first hand experiences with military convoys, USO dances, ration stamps, Gold Star moms, war heroes and war brides. A generation later, Megan’s high school years coincided with The Summer of Love. “Fountain Woman–The Magic Kingdom, 1969″ and “Identity Crisis” are two of her stories about growing up.
Ed Stivender Classics Revisited
An evening of traditional and literary tales performed in Ed’s inimitable style accompanied by banjo and harmonica with an improvisation based on audience suggestions.
Come early and enjoy music with the Brick RoadRamblers.
The doors will open at 6:30 pm.
After the concert plan to meet the Storytellers in the Atrium.

Explore new insights and techniques for tapping into your personal stories.
Saturday, 1:30-3:30 pm Workshop – Meeting Room 2AB
Ed Stivender Story Lab
Ed’s introduction to the craft of storytelling includes the five rules for success, as well as practical tips for getting started. Issues of censorship, oral tradition, environment and bombing on stage will be discussed.
